Breaking: Apple Updates iMac, Mac Pro, Magic Trackpad and 27-inch LED Cinema Display

Apple had four major updates today, Gruber gets credit for predictions:

  • Magic Trackpad ($69) – it’s a giant Bluetooth trackpad for your Mac
  • iMac Updates – Updates up to a dual-core Intel Core i7 3.6 GHz. Option for 256 GB SSD as secondary or primary drive. Updates to discrete graphics.
  • Mac Pro – Now offering 12 cores, video card updates, two Mini DisplayPorts and one dual-link DVI port
  • 27-inch LED Cinema Display ($999) – 2560 x 1440 with a 16:9 viewing ratio

Daily News Recap (July 26, 2010)

Pretty interesting day in news today. Apparently, most iPhone users love AT&T. Oops. AT&T will be fixing iPhone upload speeds in the next couple of weeks. After adding Nokia to the list of companies to point out flaws in… Apple decided to post a video of the Droid X. Apple has begun shipping free Bumper cases to those in the UK. In Jailbreak news, Spirit’s iOS 4.0.1. Jailbreak is delayed because of FaceTime. But that’s really not that important, because the Library of Congress has just made Jailbreaking legal. Not really sure how they have jurisdiction over that… but.

Following reports of low iMacs and Mac Pros, Mr. Gruber seems to think there might be a whole lot of things tomorrow. A couple days after my rant on iLife 10, seems more information about iLife 2011 is emerging. Why do the French know all about this? Apple has begun testing Mac OS X 10.6.5. LG seems to think that Apple may have some delays in trying to get the iPad in other countries. Apple is rumored to be offering free engraving on iPads purchased during the holidays. The news isn’t particularly shocking, but it’s freakin’ July.

Daily News Recap (July 23, 2010)

Apparently the rest of the TMF staff is incapable of posting all but two of the 93 news stories from the past couple days. So… here we go.

A day after Apple announced its Q3 financial results, Microsoft did the same and at least for now, they are Redwood is ahead. Apple has promoted Jeff Williams to Senior Vice President of Operations with a focus on Quality Control. Apple’s huge data center in Charlie’s secondary backyard should be ready by the end of the year. iSuppli believes that by 2011, Apple will be the second largest purchaser of semi-conductors. Apple was announced #2 in something this week: software instability. This might have something to do with the recent Safari Auto-Fill vulnerability. Apple updated Snow Leopard Server. Apple released yet another Xcode 4 preview to developers.

Turns out Steve isn’t done mocking other smartphones, the next victim: Nokia N97 Mini. About a week after Apple’s press conference, Apple launched the iPhone 4 Case Program App. Apple also began refunding purchases for those who have already acquired Bumpers. Shockingly, there were some hiccups.

AT&T’s dropped call rate has dropped from 1.44 per hundred calls to something along the lines of 0.91 (This link will download a .PDF) Other relevant AT&T news? They activated 3.2 million iPhones this last quarter. Apple could help add a couple more pretty soon. In other news, our friends at Verizon said that Apple changed their mind about something, too bad it wasn’t antenna placement. Chitaka Research is reporting that half of iOS devices are running iOS 4.

In patent news, Apple has filed for patents regarding a mono playback option on the iPod. There were also some ramblings on some small products. AppleInsider continued to promote the illogical idea of an ad-based OS.

iMac shortages seem on the brink and that comes in the wake of Mac Pro supply problems. The blogs are caught up in some idea that because someone posted the publish date a French helpbook for iLife 2010 as September 23, 2010. Here’s my take:

  1. If it gets released in September, it will be 2011
  2. There’s no actual evidence from Apple that it will be out then
  3. Anyone could have posted that book
  4. This is a load of crap

My favorite Microsoft blogger bought an Apple product, apparently she likes it.

Daily News Recap (July 16, 2010)

Apple held the much anticipated press conference today, essentially: death grip applies to everyone, media blew it out of proportion and free cases for everyone. Apple also announced it had sold three million iPhones in the first three weeks. Starting up the Verizon iPhone rumors, Steve said that there is a Verizon cell site on the Apple campus. We’ll have more on this later.

Jason Chen got his stuff back after the DA dropped charges over the $5000 Gizmodo iPhone. Foxconn denied ripping off its workers. USB 3.0 is said to be part of the newest Macs. Firefox Home is in the App Store.

Daily News Recap (March 18, 2010)

Sorry for the delay, we are still mourning the destruction of our bracket. Want to know what sites Steve reads, Silicon Alley Insider has a list, note: we aren’t on there. Redmond Pie has summed up the wonderful relationship of Steve and Eric Schmidt. Kindle for Mac is (quietly) out. AppleInsider is reporting that Apple is preparing to launch a 27-inch LED Cinema Display and a crazy Mac Pro. Meanwhile, TUAW is reporting that Google might be teaming forces with just about everyone in the world to try to defeat the Apple TV.

HTC responded to Apple’s lawsuit, interesting stuff in here. The newest iPhone/iPad SDK 3.2 is out. The first album created entirely on the iPhone is also out. Patently Apple found Apple’s newest social app: iGroups. The “Location War” has now moved on to its newest battlefront: the app store. MacNN reports that ChinaMobile is still interested in both the iPhone and iPad.

More iPad numbers are out: 10,000 per day or 400,000 in the first week according to CNN/Fortune Apple 2.0. Meanwhile, Daniel Tallo believes that it is closer to 200,000. Rupert Murdoch, your newest breaker of all news Apple, says that bigger iPads are coming. Amazon’s struggle in the e-book pricing wars is… getting out of hand. At the same time, Apple is still rushing to get content deals for the iPad. DigitalTrends wondered what you could get for the price of an iPad.

The MacUpdate Spring Promo is out featuring three apps that we have worked with before: Hyperspaces, Hydra and Timeline 3D.

Not a whole lot of news, except for a whole bunch of Apple getting number one on a variety of surveys… Apple topped Brandkeys’ 2010 Customer Loyalty Index in two categories. In Vocalabs Tech support study, they also took number one. And the one that you know about, Consumer Reports, yeah – number one in tech support. Cupertino’s newest trademark: New Music Tuesday. Incase, everyone’s favorite case maker has updated their popular Neoprene Sleeve. Apple and a bunch of other people are getting sued for a couple of patent violations. This goes away in: 3, 2, 1… Speaking of lawsuits, Elan Microelectronics claims they haven’t settled their pending lawsuit with Apple. There is a new rumor about the Core i7 “hexacore” Mac Pro and (next) Tuesday. In a sign of things to come regarding gaming on the Mac, Razer, everyone’s favorite gaming peripherals company, announced Mac support on all future products.

Apple now claims a quarter of the smartphone business. Google Voice is back in the App Store. The backlash over the lack of boobs in the App Store continues, this time in Germany. MacDailyNews took some time to ask AT&T where tethering was.

According to Engadget, the latest iPad SDK indicates no camera, but some more fun stuff was found. Here’s a funny headline compliments of Verizon: “Apple introduces the iPad – an opportunity for VZW.” You remember that company that threatened to rip-off Apple? Shenzhen Great Loong Brother (in case you had forgotten) Anyways, they are back, with a new ripoff of Apple.

Daily News Recap (February 15, 2010)

As part of the daily downfall of Adobe, AppleInsider reported the newest rumor regarding Adobe sabotaging HTML5. TechCrunch notes that despite having trouble with nearly everything else, Adobe’s Photoshop App has topped six million downloads. Adobe is trying to get Flash on the iPhone, one way or another. Computerworld reports that the Mac Pro may have Intel’s newest six-core chips. Japan will begin to investigate the App Store today over billing issues. Aperture 3 is reported to be causing significant memory leaks for many users (including us.) There was much praise for IDG’s Macworld Expo, particularly the success despite the lack of Apple. There was even more praise for Anders Norman’s iMac.

Apple is now giving away the iPhone OS 3.0 Update free to all iPod touch users. Cult of Mac reports that Apple has banned hackers from the App Store. Microsoft announced something today. Cult of Mac questioned if everyone could join together to fight the App Store. The reality, you have a better chance of seeing a unicorn. SlingPlayer in 3G hit the iPhone App Store today, alongside Meebo. TechCrunch looked at the most expensive iPhone App, BarBri.

In what has to be our favorite news story of the day: only three stories about the iPad. First, the L.A. Times explained DRM & iBooks. Boy Genius Reports claims that AT&T will sell the iPad 3G in stores. Lenovo showed off its new tablet, sort of…
