Daily News Recap (July 29, 2010)

iFixIt got their hands on a Magic Trackpad, and did what we all wanted them to. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is investigating why the iOS 4 doesn’t play so well on the iPhone 3G. A day after a class action suit was filed regarding the iPads, Japan’s industry minister decided to complain about the old iPod nano fire issues. Thinking about adding a second drive to your 27″ iMac like Apple did? It’s not so easy. Apple sold more phones than Motorola, again. A new job listing for Mac OS X 10.7 seems to hint at it being “revolutionary” – hmm… The most interesting news of the day, Apple ditched Google and Skyhook and is now using its own location service.

Steve Ballmer isn’t so happy with the three million iPads Apple has sold. It’s not the first time, but seems AOL screen names aren’t working with iTunes. In patent news… There was a bunch of handheld accelerometer related filings. Then there was patents about 3D portable devices. Also, more info regarding iTravel emerged. Apple also is looking into a fashion app?

Finally, my friends at Texas A&M think Apple is a new religion.

Apple claims that only about 400 users were affected by the apparent iTunes “hack”. In response, Apple is looking to hire an iTunes Fraud Prevention Specialist and increased security measures. The white iPhone’s box has leaked. Apple approved an iPhone 4 LED Flashlight App. Apple has launched a beta version of the next iCal. After launching a new store in France, Apple unveiled its new Shanghai Store.

Daily News Recap (July 6, 2010)

In what is starting out to be a daily topic, what we should have included yesterday… Apple could face new probes from the EU. Meanwhile, iTunes, a place of contention regarding trust laws, could get some competition.

DigiTimes is reporting that Apple has ramped up iPad production to over 2 million. In iPhone supply chain news, the iPhone seems to be facing challenges. That has led analyst to lower their predictions regarding Q3 iPhone sales. Speaking of sales, the NPD Group announced that Mac sales were up in May.

Apple responded to the recent events over iTunes, sort of confirming something fishy happened. FaceTime could be coming to the PC shortly. One thing that will be coming shortly is a carrier unlock for the iPhone 4. Gizmodo claims that AppleCare acknowledged that the software update won’t fix the iPhone’s Antenna problem. At least one person believes that Apple is developing a new (coding) language.

Daily News Recap (July 5, 2010)

Despite it seem like almost a weeks since the last one of these came out, it hasn’t really been that long. Late Friday, reports of Apple taking a new role in the TV industry began to pick up. A new Apple Store opened in Paris, while that may not seem like news – the new design is something of note. Reports of iTunes App Store hacking surfaced over the weekend, as MacRumors pointed out – it seems to great exaggeration. This somehow didn’t make it into last Thursday’s news, but Disney acquired Tapulous.

Remember the conversation one user had with Steve over reception issues that Boy Genius posted last week? Apple claims it’s fake, Boy Genius stands by its report. Anyways, Consumer Reports claims that the issue really isn’t that unique. Despite earlier reports that Apple would not be giving everyone free Bumper cases, at least one individual has received them compliments of Apple. Despite earlier reports that Apple would bar Google’s AdMob from selling ads in iOS, the initial roleout seems to say otherwise. It seems Nike+ and iOS 4 aren’t the best of friends as users are reporting issues.

Steve’s had a busy 48 hours:

The lawsuit has been filed regarding iPhone 4 reception issues – over/under on it being settled: five years. In the mean time, don’t expect any free Bumpers. Despite this – AnandTech claims that the latest rendition has the best reception of any iPhone. Apple is looking for some antenna engineers though. In addition to proximity sensors, breaking glass and reception – some iPhone 4s are also showing a yellow camera. Apple did manage to fix the issue regarding iOS 4 and Exchange. iAds was launched today. AdMob is reporting that only 44% of iOS 4 devices are in North America. So those wonderful Verizon iPhone rumors are in full swing, again.

In other news. iTunes U surpassed 250 million downloads. Apple’s Q3 financial call will take place July 20th. In patent news, Apple filed for a trademark of My iPhone icon and patents for GarageBand.

Daily News Recap (June 29, 2010)

AT&T stores had iPhone 4s available for non-reserve customers nationwide, you know what that means. Much to everyone’s surprise, they sold out. It’s been hinted at a couple times before, but iWork for iPhone has reappeared on Apple’s site in some capacity. Boy Genius Reports got ahold of Apple’s internal documents regarding the antenna issues. Steve would like you to use multitasking the way it’s designed. Apple has begun to ship many of their Bumper cases to users. The rumor that will never die points to January 2011 as the time for the Verizon iPhone. Oddly, last year rumors put it at January of 2010.

Foxconn is rumored to be moving some of Apple’s production to other parts of China. They’ve also installed some nets to prevent workers from jumping. Apple added $10 HD movies to the iTunes Store. Speaking of HD, Apple is reported to be looking to expand into the TV markets. AppleInsider is reporting that iOS 4 will be available for the iPad in November. In patent news, Apple was granted patents for a host of things and filed a trademark for the iPhone 4 packaging.

In news you really don’t care about, but is more important than Apple of My Eye” - Steve Jobs will be attending some conference you never knew existed. Finally, If you are feeling like a jackass and would like to be part of a Class Action Lawsuit against Apple for the iPhone 4, the folks at Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff (we’ll presume all major jackasses) would like to represent you.

Daily News Recap (June 16, 2010)

Despite most the news centering around the iPhone 4 and its sales, somehow there was still more. The idiots at Adobe, Google, Motorola and Verizon have scheduled a Droid event, the day before the iPhone 4 release. Don’t worry, we’ll be liveblogging it. In other instances of stupidity, AT&T claims that its quality issues will be resolved soon. Speaking of AT&T, their good friend – the one that hacked all those iPads, is being held on drug charges… go figure. Back on sales numbers, turns out Apple’s Bumper case for iPhone 4 is selling well. Some international iPhone plans have been released, including unlocked phones in Canada and all countries related.

iTunes saw quite a few updates. Version 9.2 was released for download. Some new things appeared in the iTunes stores. One was the comic “Ulysses”, the other were apps designed for iOS 4. iFixIt tore apart the new Mac mini and Adobe took the opportunity to criticize Apple. Oh you are right, that last part isn’t really news.
