Daily News Recap (January 26, 2010)

Too busy watching House and 24 last night? We were, but we still managed to keep track of all of the Apple news or at least the stories we read. Apple released a software update for it’s aluminum keyboard helping it play nice with other bluetooth devices. Apple also filed for another multi-touch patent. Financial Times says that Apple is bullying the TV networks to cut the price of iTunes TV shows in half, perhaps because Hulu is going to start charging. Air New Zealand is going to put iPod jacks (and really cool seats) in its planes. Google Voice got updated for the iPhone. Somewhere in a bunch of random Microsoft coding, Boy Genius, who literally must be a genius, found evidence of the Zune phone? MacRumors tried to explain what is up with the carrier agreement for the iPhone and essentially concluded, you better just wait for tomorrow.

Speaking of which, the CEO of McGraw-Hill talked about how many textbooks he sold last quarter and about how many he is going to sell on the now confirmed Apple Tablet, thanks Terry. Dank Frakes takes on naming the Apple Tablet. Arnold Kim at MacRumors goes old school on the mythical creature that is the Apple Tablet. Gizmodo thinks that they have found the best leaked Tablet porn yet, and yes – those have been on the interwebs for a couple of days. MacNN and the New York Times (and Gizmodo) both agree with us that the Tablet is going to save the newspapers.

Finally, The Street proved that us bloggers know more about Apple’s earnings then the people that work for companies like Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. We personally think we would have avoided the recession completely. Bloggers FTW.

Opinion: The Tablet

Let’s face it, no one is really caring what happens for the rest of the day, we all want to know what’s going to happen at Yerba Buena tomorrow. OLED or no OLED? AT&T or Verizon? OS X or iPhone OS? Camera? One dock or two docks? iPad or iSlate? Yeah, we are talking about the Apple Tablet. It’s no secret that Apple is going to release something special tomorrow, even, Tim Cook wasn’t willing to take away our “joy” or ruin the “surprise.” We’ve discussed before why the Tablet will be important and oddly concluded, it really wasn’t that important. Today, we will give our thoughts after the jump.

Daily News Recap (January 25, 2010)

Still partying on Bourbon Street? In case you missed it we announced that we will attempt to summarize all news Infinite Loop daily (except Saturdays.) So here’s day numero two. Steve Jobs said that the Tablet is the “most important thing I’ve ever done” – so we”ll start with the Tablet. Flurry Analytics reported that a flurry of about 50 different Apple Tablet prototypes have been detected testing on the Apple Campus running OS 3.2. MacWorld and two analyst had some sense to remind all of us that the Tablet may not go Verizon after all. The L.A. Times is reporting that the New York Times is working with Apple to develop the devil Tablet. MacNN says that Apple has been working aggressively over the past month to secure publishers for the Tablet. Then the publishers said that there won’t be a lot of books until mid 2010 (see if that stops anyone from buying) and it won’t cost near $1000. Infinite Loop reported that Qualcomm is supplying something for the Tablet. And oh yeah, it’s not going to compete against the DS and PSP. Apple is preparing Yerba Buena for something on Wednesday? Bloomberg thinks everyone is getting the iPhone? Verizon thinks something big is happening on Wednesday according to Boy Genius. Droid 2.0, anyone?

Now for all things not related to Monday or Wednesday. Intego did their annual assessment of how easy it was to hack something with an Apple OS. Apple is going to release a fix for the 27″ iMac so it can stop the screen flickering, we shall wait to see if it waits and no, it won’t fix any of the other issues you are having with that machine. HP is going to do the intelligent thing and take on iTunes, Gizmodo seemed to think it was about as smart as we do. Acer is going to make an App Store and an e-book reader; Dell is making a phone, just in case you didn’t know. The year after (2013) the world ends (2012), Android will overtake the iPhone, or at least that is what IDC is guessing.

*There will be a separate post regarding the Q1 Financial Report at the conclusion of the call.

Breaking: Apple Issues Invitations to the January 27th Event

While TheMacFeed hasn’t gotten an invitation, Engadget has. Underneath some paint splurges reads the text, “Come see our latest creation.” Seems fairly certain that we will see a tablet on the 27th.

We will post our opinions later on/closer to the event.

Image after the jump.

Opinion: The importance of Apple’s Tablet

Apple’s tablet device is coming, the question at this point seems to be we whether it’s coming on the 26th of January. One might point out that we have had tablet computers for a while, that they haven’t caught on; e-book readers are starting to take success and that Apple seems to be doing just fine. All of these are true, but this is Apple – they do not respond, rather they innovate. This article serves to examine that which is likely to be Apple’s tablet and the importance it will have.

2009, a Year in Review

The year 2009 was an important one for a lot of reasons: America saw its first African-American President, the global economy seemed to take a step towards the right direction and we lost the undisputed King of Pop. On Infinite Loop, 2009 was an important year to say the least: market share rose, products were introduced, an executive returned and the competition, in two key markets, took steps forward. Today, we examine the positives and the negatives and conclude with a couple key topics that will likely shape the success of Apple Inc.
