Daily News Recap (July 14, 2010)

So… large news post today. Apple acquired mapping developer Poly9. Seems that Apple Retail employees are being told something big is on the way. Digitimes believes smaller iPads are on the way before Christmas. Intel announced that Sandy Bridge will be shipping early, seems Apple could be responsible for at least some of the growth in the chip market. Our friends at Psystar are appealing the ban against their illegal computers.

Some idiot decided to talk about an iPhone recall. (It’s not going to happen) However, Gizmodo readers are reporting that Apple has fixed the death grip. This would coincide with an iFixIt report. That’s good news given the recent complaints about the Bumper case. The iPhone 4 has been unlocked via the Dev Team. Apple released the first beta of iOS 4.1 and iPhone SDK 4.1. Apple got caught removing threads about the recent Consumer Reports article on the iPhone 4 from their own forums. However, that report by Consumer Reports is getting blasted. The non-technical complaints seem to be coming from the fact that most users like their iPhones. Unfortunately there seems to be yet another problem brewing, this one regarding Bluetooth devices and the new iPhone.

And finally…

Daily News Recap (May 5, 2010)

Apparently Charlie’s summer is only going to last one day. Yesterday, Ellen made fun of Apple, then got a call from Apple, then apologized. Steve has promised HTML5 support for Safari “soon.” In addition to updating Safari, Cupertino seems to be updating its own downloads page. Intel’s Lightpeak is now shipping in 2011.

On the legal front… Apple might change the iPhone SDK in order to avoid the wrath of the FTC. Thanks Adobe. Kevin Lynch (Adobe CTO) then claimed it was Apple that was playing the “legal games.” He then went onto claim that Flash doesn’t suck on the iPhone. Hey buddy, it sucks on the Mac. Sure, we are playing favorites – but Adobe is just being stupid. However, Apple is not going to avoid a patent lawsuit over the iPhone. (Yawn) Apple filed a “Made for iPhone” trademark and then one for the iPad.

AT&T is dropping more calls then ever, leading to the logical question: is it the iPad’s fault? (No, it’s AT&T’s) If you would like the 3G rendition of the iPad, you better have a home address.

Apple has switched suppliers for the next iPhone. Seems it might be able to record HD videos Patently Apple has reported that Apple might be testing iTravel in Montreal. Apple released iPhone OS 4 Beta 3 and it includes filesharing? And in case you were wondering, Apple is winning that war with the Android.

MacRumors has launched a blood drive, the first MacRumors community service project to date. If you would like to become the Mrs. Daniel Feeney, there’s an app for that site for that.

Review: MacKeeper

Over the years, there have been a lot of applications to help users maintain their Macs.  There has also been growing debate over whether or not regular maintenance of a Mac is even necessary.  While I will not settle that debate today, I will provide some thoughts directed towards those who do feel that doing maintenance is am important aspect of owning and operating a Macintosh.  With that in mind, allow me to introduce a fairly new addition to mac maintenance programs: MacKeeper by ZeoBIT LLC. Versa Battery VS190 Review

Recently, I was given the opportunity to review Versatile Studio’s VS190 portable battery.  Versatile designed this battery to compliment and work well with the Macbook Pro line of computers.  In order to test this unit properly, I hooked it up to one of Apple’s new 15″ i7 Macbook Pros with Anti-Glare.  I will discuss this battery on a number of levels, including aesthetics, portability, truth to advertiser’s claims, and usability.

The battery itself is artfully designed.  It contrasts well with the Macbook Pro hardware, and can very conveniently be set underneath or beside the Macbook Pro to rest.  The size of the battery is also very well-considered.  It is small enough to fit in your laptop bag without making it too bulky.  The machined edges of the battery’s casing also make it appeal more to the design of the Macbook Pro. Daily News Recap (March 22, 2010)

If you would like to know how important Apple’s retail stores are, CNN/Fortune’s Apple 2.0 Blog explains why. Takes that ifoAppleStore, haha. Intel is apparently trying to speed up the introduction of USB 3.0. This week will be a week of exposing security flaws across Apple’s product line: here are examples number one through twenty, compliments of Charlie Miller. We aren’t sure why this is news, but we keep writing, perhaps he just realized this? Anyways, the guy that designed the famed Cube Store (also known as the Fifth Avenue Store) is computer illiterate.

The Kindle app for the iPad peeks into the future of Kindle, and no, we don’t mean the death of the Kindle. Since we haven’t talked about Flash and the iPad recently, here’s one. Project Gutenberg, (if you have used an e-Book, you’ll know what this is) should be coming to the iPad. If you have a million dollars and would like the address: ipaddownload.com; you can have it. If that’s too expensive, but if you would like a paper iPad, you can have it.

Digitimes is reporting that the Taiwanese carriers are giving priority to the iPhone, forcing others to find different solutions. 9 to 5 Mac notes that you can now gift apps within iTunes. Gawker has gotten in on the Google-Apple War.

We mainly stick to Apple news, but it should be noted that Google finally pulled the plug on Google.cn, a quick search on Google.com will provide you with some details.

Daily News Recap (March 19, 2010)

The countdown to WWDC 2010 has started. DigiTimes is reporting that Intel is having difficulties filling demands for their newest processors, could mean delay for MacBook. Interesting comments regarding the security of Mac OS X. Bharti Airtel has reached an agreement to sell the iPhone 3GS in India.

Developers are now allowed to submit iPad apps to the App Store. There is some belief that the iPad could outsell the iPhone during the first couple of days. Educational Institutions are now being offered the ability to purchase a discount iPad 10-pack. According to one report, there is now someone to blame for the iPad delay. 9 to 5 Mac is reporting that Samsung has begun producing 3 million screens for the iPad. The questions regarding what content will be available at the launch of the iPad continue to mount. The secrecy of the iPad is shockingly out of hand.
