Imagine, you are sitting in a coffee shop, miles away from home when you realize you need to email your colleague the presentation you both are working on, then you simply open an app on your iPhone and send it. Here, File File! makes this and much more possible.

In short

With Here, File File! you can access your computer’s documents, movies, even music, from anywhere around the world over a secure, encrypted connection.

Setup

Here, File File! has one of the easiest setups when compared to other apps that requite a desktop application. You simply download the OS X app, wait for the app to find the computer, and enter your password. If necessary, there is the option to setup the computer manually with the IP Address, ports, etc.

No Lag, at all

Loading a video from your computer actually carries no lag whatsoever, they load like any other video and look stunning. Music, that too loads without lag. It is quite amazing really how everything works so flawlessly, but it really does bring about the option of putting movies and large files on the desktop computer rather than the phone and getting a 16Gb iPhone rather than a 32Gb.

Spotlight

The spotlight search does a great job of making files easy to locate as opposed to searching through multiple folders, and the option to filter the search by folders, images, movies, music, PDF, and presentations makes it that much better.

The Con

There are no real big downsides to using Here, File File! In-fact, there is only one, the price ($9.99). If that can be overcome, then you are in for a very good time with the ability to access every file on your Mac, anywhere.

Conclusion

Here, File File! is a brilliant, well thought out app that should make other apps like it green with envy. It allows you to access an entire computer from a simple, easy to use app, and best of all, it works. At the moment, it is only compatible with Macs running 10.5+. Here, File File! is available on the app store for the not-so-low-price of 9.99, we recommend you check it out (Link).

Alsoft’s DiskWarrior 4 is a disk maintenance utility that aims to keep your hard-drive healthy, fast, and in perfect working order. In addition, it can help you to recover lost data and repair corrupted data on a failing hard drive. Further, unlike many other disk utilities, you can use DiskWarrior as a proactive part of your regular maintenance routine.

First Glance

Version 4.2 of DiskWarrior includes several new and useful features compared to versions of the past. Among those features are Snow Leopard support, and the fact that it now comes as a universal binary capable of servicing both PowerPC and Intel macs. At first glance, it doesn’t seem as though DiskWarrior will do much – that is, until you actually use it.

Why Do I Need This?

DiskWarrior is like an insurance policy of sorts. Besides checking for physical malfunction on your drive, It performs a number of critical functions on your Mac, with the ultimate aim being that of preventing drive damage and slowing, and helping to prevent data loss. However, it can also handle emergencies such as recovering corrupted data, or pulling data off of a damaged or failing drive. In addition, it can help your hard drive to run much faster by evaluating and rebuilding your directory system, and intelligently monitoring your permissions. In short, since directory and permissions problems are the leading cause of malfunction in Macs, you need this because it WILL save you. It will save you time, it will save you data loss, and both of those things save you money.

How is DiskWarrior Different?

DiskWarrior, at it’s essence, uses a different approach to the matter of directory repair than other available programs. Instead of checking and patching the disk directory, it actually rebuilds the directory from the ground up (using information from the original directory), achieving a faster and more sustainable result than the alternative. This means it may be able to recover data that other programs cannot.

Let’s Get Practical.

So, we’ve mentioned all of the great things that Disk Warrior can do – but the lingering question to many of you will be usability. In my usage of DiskWarrior, I have found that not only is it much easier to use than other similar utilities I have utilized before, it’s also fast! In terms of practical usability, I would say that DiskWarrior absolutely takes the cake. It’s fast, it’s easy to use, it’s very effective, and it can provide benefits that no other program I have used can provide.

Conclusion.

In conclusion, Alsoft Disk Warrior 4 is a reasonably-priced application that does everything it claims to do – and it does so very, very well! Disk Warrior is fast, easy, effective, and incredibly useful. If you own a Mac, you should use DiskWarrior. If you don’t, add it to your list. For more information, or to purchase DiskWarrior (Cost is $100), please visit the Alsoft product page on the internet.

Jimmy Pataya is a unique and interesting iPhone game with a skydiving theme. In the game, you play Jimmy, who enjoys jumping out of airplanes (pick me up later). Your job is to guide tilt Jimmy left or right to various degrees to help him avoid hitting solid platforms on his rapid vertical descent. The game is challenging, fast-paced, and put together quite well. This game reminds me of some very classic cellphone gamine, and reminds me in some ways of the classic Nokia game “SkyDive” – only updated, and thoroughly modernized.

The game features rich, bright graphics that are energizing and fun to look at. This game is at least as interesting visually as it is to play. The game is difficult enough to be challenging, but not so difficult that you get frustrated and want to give up. It seems to maintain that important balance of fun and challenge.

Also noteworthy is the fact that this game is built under OpenFeint. OpenFeint allows you to share thoughts about the game, as well as your game scores with other players. It’s free to participate in and extremely easy to use (any for those naysayers, it is also completely optional) and, in my opinion, really enriches the overall gaming experience.

In conclusion, Jimmy Pataya is a well-built game that is visually appealing, fun, and fast-paced. I enjoyed reviewing it, and I hope that you will find it interesting and enjoyable. To learn more about Jimmy Pataya, or to purchase it, then follow the iTunes link here: Jimmy Pataya.

According to TechCrunch, Apple has begun cracking down on “cookie cutter apps” or applications “that are built from templates using one of the many app-building services available.”

In the wake of Apple’s sudden decision to remove nearly all “sexy” applications from the App Store, we’ve been hearing that the company is also clamping down on so-called “cookie-cutter” applications — iPhone apps that are built from templates using one of the many app-building services available. This would be yet another major change for the App Store, as it already features thousands of such applications. And, perhaps more important, quite a few companies have sprung up to facilitate building iPhone applications. I’ve reached out to Apple to ask if they’d like to clarify their stance, but given their lack of transparency in the past, I’m not betting on getting anything definitive. To try to get to the bottom of the current situation, I spoke with multiple developers (some of whom wished to remain anonymous) to find out what Apple was telling them.

The iPhone has revolutionized the gaming and phone industry with its touch capabilities and its revolutionary App Store in which a user can browse over 150,000 apps. Today, we review Flaboo, an app created by Dene Carter, which is a strategic jumping game where the sky is the limit. In Flamboo, you play as Fat Chick (yes, you play as a fat baby chick) and your goal is to get as high as you can before the time runs out. In addition to just hopping, you can pick up keys that unlock power-up-like bonuses that allow you to bounce higher, fly faster, and jump twice as high. As in just about all games, there is a villain. In Flaboo, evil clouds are meant to slow you down enough so that you can not hit the next checkpoint.

Flaboo is a gorgeous app which takes you into an imaginary land full of excitement and adventure. First, I would like to point out that unlike just about every other app, Flaboo has no menu. The app is truly bringing across an Apple mindset because quite frankly, it doesn’t need a menu. Second, the app has no level of difficulty. Dene Carter explained the gameplay for us: “The levels are all generated at run-time. Not just the levels, but the pacing of the levels as well. In your first game you might get to the second level, around 40 metres and discover that it’s dark. On another you might find that the clouds have formed wheels which turn in the sky. It’s different every time. On top of that, the game also has an idea of how stressed it’s made you when throwing these weird levels at you, and gives you something less harrowing to deal afterward. The idea is to keep a constant ebb and flow of pressure and relaxation. Left 4 Dead does it, Fable did it, and I see no reason why apps like Flaboo! can’t do it too. Small does not have to mean lazily executed.”

“Controlling Fat Chick is a little more complex than you might think at first. The primary thing to keep in mind when you are playing is not how far you’re tipping the phone, but where you’re hitting those clouds. The clouds act as if they are curved on top, bouncing you left or right depending where you hit them. Tilting is primarily there to add english to your bounces, or help fix an awkward bounce. In fact, tilting when you flap or bounce is 8 times more effective than if you just tilt the phone all the time. It’s really interesting when people ‘get’ this, because their scores usually double straight away.”

The gameplay of Flaboo is pretty straight forward. You jump higher and higher with a goal of beating either your highest score, or the top score on the OpenFeint leader-boards (coming soon). Our only “con” is that we wish there was an option to play both landscape and portrait. Though it would be a nice touch, we can easily live without is as it would limit your field of view when looking ahead on the map, posing a challenge if you like to see what is coming.

Overall, we feel that Flaboo is an amazing, gorgeous app that literally keeps you busy for hours. The price of Flaboo is 99 cents which makes it in everyone’s price range. TheMacFeed recommends Flaboo to anyone looking for a cute game that is perfect for passing time. Flaboo is available for download from the iTunes store located here.

NetBook from developer StaS Bandol is an iPhone/iPod Touch application meant to store records, and configuration settings for a variety of networks. In a sense, it has the ability of becoming the network administrator’s best friend by storing valuable data in their pocket. However, NetBook’s developers claim that this app is not only meant for network administrators, but for anyone “who has a lot of computers to manage.” Since, I fall in the latter category; as a reviewer I looked at the application to see how if it would benefit a regular person.

Interface

NetBook’s interface fits the same theme that most iPhone applications use, which is simplicity. The menu is clearly defined into several main categories: users, systems and settings. Each menu is then filtered into three different tabs in order to make the app’s search function easier to use. For the user menu the tabs where name, user and email. For the system menu the tabs were labeled IP, MAC and Netbios. NetBook does a good job of storing data. The developers specifically structured data to be found in this manner so that it was also easy to correlate user information associated with a specific network or computer, which was another advantage of this app. Thus this was one of the many features that NetBook had to offer.

Features:

Keeps records/data of user information: email, username, password, etc.

Keeps records for system info: IP address, MAC address, Netbios name, admin username & password

Filters search function by menu category

PING and HTTP functions

Email user data

Can detect conflicts in IP address, username, name and email information

Functionality

The functionality of NetBook is deeply seeded within the app’s ability to store data successfully otherwise it would be useless. The HTTP and PING functions associated with the systems menu also worked for me. I actually had a problem with my router, and was able to use NetBook to see if my internet connection was still active by using the ping function. The HTTP function worked as well and was used to access an IP address that I had administrative privileges to. Though the PING and HTTP functions are meant for much complex operations, it did prove to be very useful especially in my time of need.

Conclusion

As I set out to write this short review, my purpose was to see how useful NetBook really was. And I came to the conclusion that it met my needs despite how small they were. Overall, in my experience NetBook did not disappoint. However a major downfall with the app was lack of support for it on the main website. It would’ve have been nice to have some sort of short guide or FAQ/help section associated with the program. I give this app a 3.0/5.0, and recommend you at least give NetBook a try. It’s available in the iTunes store for $1.99.

But heres to the folks who do not want to take the time to try out a free App that has yet to grow its roots and flourish throughout the App store:

Adobe is a company know for its professionalism, style, and probably their best selling application Photoshop. Recently, Adobe released a new app to go along with their web service Photoshop.com which is basically a “Mobile Photoshop.” Sadly, it does not carry many special tools & effects. Still we hope that they plan to update this app by releasing more tools to customize our photos on the go.

Features:

Adobe’s Photoshop.com Mobile has basic features that can prove to be extremely effective when attempting to put an artistic touch on a photo. The features as of version 1.0.0.209 are:

Basics: Crop, Rotate, and Flip

Color: Exposure, Saturation, Tint, Black and White

Filters: Sketch, Soft Focus

Effects: Vibrant, Pop, Border, Vignetter Blur, Warm Vintage, Rainbow, White Glow, Soft Black and White

Sadly, these do not completely satisfy, we would love to have a much larger library of filters and effects to choose from.

User Interface:

The user interface of Photoshop.com Mobile is something you would expect from Adobe, it isn’t quite an Apple look but sharper and more professional looking. It is much darker then most apps we see but it brings with it a real photo editing look. Overall we love the UI of Photoshop.com Mobile!

Conclusion:

Overall, Photoshop.com Mobile has a fantastic UI, free storage space online (If registered), more effects and filters then many other paid apps do, and lastly it is free. What more is needed to say? We award Photoshop.com Mobile a whopping 4/5 for its price and effects!

NEXTGENSystems has developed an incredibly handy application for the iPhone and iPod Touch known, as iCALCtime, which is essentially a time calculator. Initially this application seems like a very simple program, but there is a lot “happening under the hood” so to speak. In iCALCtime, you can calculate time in eight different formats, add and subtract, which is what really makes this app very enticing.

Interface & Functionality

The interface is very simple, and only consists of two screens. The main screen is for time calculation, and the preferences menu is used to configure what format the time will be calculated in. The main screen is divided into different sections: history, running total, active, and a keypad that allows you to choose what unit you’ll need to calculate the results.

iCALCtime’s preference menu gives you eight different options that are structured into two categories: time format and single unit. After one of the formats is selected, you have the option of allowing the output to be displayed in year, day, hour, minute and seconds. You also have the choice of selecting the shake option to clear your problem history in the main screen. Overall, the interface is clean and very easy to use. The functionality of iCALCtime is exceptional and convenient. The only major drawback to this application is that there is no option to multiply or divide time calculations. Now this might not matter to some users, but it depends on what your preferences are.

Conclusion

Nevertheless, NEXTGENSystems’ application performed admirably. Overall, we highly recommend this app and give it 4.0/5.0 stars. iCALCtime is available in the iTunes Store for $1.99.

WIFI HD is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, developed by Savy Soda, to be a portable hard drive accessed through Wi-Fi via an internet connection. Basically, WIFI HD works on the concept that once you enable the program, you’re given a URL to enter into your browser. Once that is accomplished a very simplistic website shows the contents stored on your iPhone, which can be downloaded. As a user you are also allowed to upload data from your computer. In essence, WIFI HD does work with what it sets out do initially. However, as I was reviewing this product I experienced many problems trying to organize, and find my media via WIFI HD’s web interface. Sadly this is where most problems occurred with this app. Furthermore we’ll look at the Design, Usability and Organization, and Functionality of WIFI HD.

Design

The design of WIFI HD is minimal. The app itself has one menu, which lists all of the files and media stored on the iPhone for access only to the app. However, if you create a folder, the menu will switch to another screen to show what is stored in that specific menu. There is really nothing elaborate about WIFI HD’s design; it’s very simple and self-explanatory, which would work to its advantage if it were better at organizing your media.

The design of the web interface is also very simple, but not very pleasing to the eye. There are no icons or graphics of any sort, because the entire user-interface is text based with clickable links to access, and download different areas of the menu; depending on how you organize it.

Usability and Organization

The usability of WIFI HD is questionable, and depends largely on the user-interface. Despite its simple design, there were several problems that I encountered when trying to upload, and organize the media I had stored on the iPhone for the app. The main function of WIFI HD is to upload and store media via a web browser. Now in all fairness the application does work. I was mostly able to upload data and download it via the web interface without many problems. However, I had more difficulty with the way WIFI HD stored my files.

In the web interface, you’re allowed to create folders, and create your own organizational system. You are also “supposedly” allowed to upload any data within an actual folder. Yet, when I did this, the WIFI HD web interface uploaded my data to the main menu instead of the folder I originally uploaded it to. The inability to upload to a location I had chosen was very frustrating because I had specifically created folders, and assigned them to certain categories. What was more disappointing was that I tried to correct the problem by deleting the file, and then uploading it a second time. Sure enough, it repeated the same problem. When I tried to upload a document into another folder then it worked. I was able to view that document within the folder I had assigned it to. Nonetheless, if I tried to upload a music video or a song it repeated the same error, and uploaded it to the main menu, instead of the folder I had initially chosen, thus making it difficult to find my files. Yet, the few times WIFI HD stored a file in the correct location; it would store it twice: in the main menu and the folder, while rapidly degrading the user experience.

The last problem I encountered while reviewing WIFI HD was the way the application allowed you to delete files in the web browser. In the web interface, there is an “X” located right next the file name, which you click when you want to delete a file. However, if you are not careful, any file that you click on will delete even if you did not click on the “X” next to it. When you click on an “X” to delete a file the application’s web interface literally places a “delete” command within the URL window. If you don’t go back, and manually erase the “delete” command, than any file you want to download will automatically be deleted when you click on its name. This error is another gigantic obstacle for the app’s usability.

The app itself on the iPhone and iPod Touch is basically used to enable the Wi-Fi hard drive and to list the files stored on it. As a user, you can only access the files via the web interface. However, what is good about WIFI HD is that you can access your data from any computer with a Wi-Fi connection. WIFI HD will always give you the correct URL to access your data. Now just keep in mind that the URL will change depending on which Wi-Fi connection you are accessing at the moment. Also, note that you can only access your files when the WIFI HD app is opened on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Functionality

Overall, WIFI HD does work on the most basic terms, but its functionality is severely hindered by the web interface, and difficulty uploading data into certain folders, and listing files where they don’t belong. Uploading files can at times be bothersome, and take forever. However, I might not be able to blame this entirely on WIFI HD; it’s possible that my internet connection could have played a role as well. Nevertheless, if organization does not matter that much to you then WIFI HD works when it comes to just storing, downloading and uploading files. Yet, if you want to organize and personalize your files than I sincerely recommend that you try another app. Savy Soda’s program still has a long way to go. However if you are curious you can try the ad-supported version for free or pay $1.99 for the app. I give WIFI HD a 2.5/5.0.
