iPhone 4 Case Program Live

Today, Apple released the iPhone 4 Case program app on the App Store. Rather than doing it online through a form, you must do it through this App. The process is quite simple: login, choose a case, verify shipping address, click “place order.” The app is available here, we recommend you try and beat the 3 million people who will be doing this today. More info from Apple’s site here.

Review: Here File File

Imagine, you are sitting in a coffee shop, miles away from home when you realize you need to email your colleague the presentation you both are working on, then you simply open an app on your iPhone and send it. Here, File File! makes this and much more possible. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: DiskWarrior 4.2

Alsoft’s DiskWarrior 4 is a disk maintenance utility that aims to keep your hard-drive healthy, fast, and in perfect working order.    In addition, it can help you to recover lost data and repair corrupted data on a failing hard drive.  Further, unlike many other disk utilities, you can use DiskWarrior as a proactive part of your regular maintenance routine. Review: Jimmy Pataya

Jimmy Pataya is a unique and interesting iPhone game with a skydiving theme.  In the game, you play Jimmy, who enjoys jumping out of airplanes (pick me up later).  Your job is to guide tilt Jimmy left or right to various degrees to help him avoid hitting solid platforms on his rapid vertical descent.  The game is challenging, fast-paced, and put together quite well.  This game reminds me of some very classic cellphone gamine, and reminds me in some ways of the classic Nokia game “SkyDive” – only updated, and thoroughly modernized. Apple Cracks Down on “Cookie Cutter Apps”

According to TechCrunch, Apple has begun cracking down on “cookie cutter apps” or applications “that are built from templates using one of the many app-building services available.”

In the wake of Apple’s sudden decision to remove nearly all “sexy” applications from the App Store, we’ve been hearing that the company is also clamping down on so-called “cookie-cutter” applications — iPhone apps that are built from templates using one of the many app-building services available. This would be yet another major change for the App Store, as it already features thousands of such applications. And, perhaps more important, quite a few companies have sprung up to facilitate building iPhone applications. I’ve reached out to Apple to ask if they’d like to clarify their stance, but given their lack of transparency in the past, I’m not betting on getting anything definitive. To try to get to the bottom of the current situation, I spoke with multiple developers (some of whom wished to remain anonymous) to find out what Apple was telling them.

Review: Flaboo

The iPhone has revolutionized the gaming and phone industry with its touch capabilities and its revolutionary App Store in which a user can browse over 150,000 apps. Today, we review Flaboo, an app created by Dene Carter, which is a strategic jumping game where the sky is the limit. In Flamboo, you play as Fat Chick (yes, you play as a fat baby chick) and your goal is to get as high as you can before the time runs out. In addition to just hopping, you can pick up keys that unlock power-up-like bonuses that allow you to bounce higher, fly faster, and jump twice as high. As in just about all games, there is a villain. In Flaboo, evil clouds are meant to slow you down enough so that you can not hit the next checkpoint. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: NetBook

NetBook from developer StaS Bandol is an iPhone/iPod Touch application meant to store records, and configuration settings for a variety of networks.  In a sense, it has the ability of becoming the network administrator’s best friend by storing valuable data in their pocket.  However, NetBook’s developers claim that this app is not only meant for network administrators, but for anyone “who has a lot of computers to manage.”  Since, I fall in the latter category; as a reviewer I looked at the application to see how if it would benefit a regular person.
