Review: GelaSkins

Posted onMarch 8th, 2010

We have promised Kiersten that this was coming a while ago. Customs, a broken computer, Charlie wanting to make an Oscar-nominated film (you can find his video review of the Shure SRH840 and SRH750DJ here) – those are all explanations behind why this is late. One of the most crowded booths we saw at CES was that of GelaSkins and since January they have expanded their ever-growing catalog of images that you can adorn your favorite portable device to include the breath-taking images of National Geographic and some creative characters compliments of Marvel Comics. We aren’t really sure how to review something like a GelaSkins – but, we’ll make an attempt after the break.

Review: iSkin ProTouch Keyboard Protector for MacBook

Posted onFebruary 20th, 2010

A few weeks ago, I was doing my usual “search google for something I really need” routine, and during that daily exercise I stumbled upon iSkin, a company which apparently makes cases and skins for the entire Apple family. One product that really stood out to me was their keyboard covers. Maybe it was all the bright colors, then again, it probably was just because I clicked on the iSkin MacPC page. To begin, I’d like to mention that iSkin is not the only company that makes such a product; Moshi, KB Covers, and a few other companies out there do as well.

Review: Twelve South’s BassJump

Posted onJanuary 29th, 2010

We promise: no more Twelve South love stories, this time we are going to just review the product. If you don’t know why we love Twelve South, then look here, or here, or here. There are plenty of portable speakers on the market – some will fit in your pocket, some require batteries, some are powered by the sun, some are waterproof. They come in all shapes and sizes, yet for the most part – they all produce awful sound. If you are like us and have a 17″ MacBook Pro, you have pretty good built-in speakers as far as notebooks go, but this creates a problem. The MacBook Pro speakers aren’t great, but quite frankly – none of the portable options are any better. Twelve South decided to change this, well sort of. Rather then reinvent the market segment that is portable speakers, they just invented the first (to our knowledge) portable USB-powered subwoofer.

Review: Astro A40 Audio System

Posted onJanuary 24th, 2010

TheMacFeed has seen numerous gaming headphones these past few months, but we have yet to see one better then the Astro A40 Audio system. Created by Astro Gaming, the A40 audio system has become the standard in the gaming industry, and the most used headset at MLG events. In this review, we will also be looking at the A40’s partner in crime, the 2010 Astro MixAmp.

TheMacFeed’s in-depth review of the Astro A40 Audio System including the MixAmp follows.

First Look: Twelve South Launches the BookBook

Posted onJanuary 21st, 2010

We don’t normally do posts regarding the announcement of new products. Heck, we tend to miss most of Apple’s events it seems – for some reason this is different. You ask why – well, it’s because it is Twelve South. We hinted that we might see something from them in the near future, and well – this is that post. In case you haven’t figured out, we think that Twelve South might be the Skunk Works of the Apple world. Okay, perhaps that is a stretch – Twelve South is not part of the U.S. government, or is it? What is that picture in left-hand corner, well it’s the BookBook. What’d you think it was, a book from the 18th Century? (We did)
