When the Bone Collection sent us three cases to review, we tested them all for a couple of days – but there was one that we spent more time with then the other two. We admit it, we picked a favorite. Doesn’t everyone pick favorites? We reviewed the first cases within a pretty short period of time between one another and so today’s review might be a refresher, it also will likely provide some different insights. We still don’t believe that we have mastered this whole, iPhone case review thing – but we shall try. The next contender in the ring, Bone Collection’s Bubble Case.
Out of the Box
Sure, there will be new insights – but that doesn’t mean we are going to pull a rabbit out of the box. In the bottom right hand corner there is still that same sticker that confused us the first two prior times about buying one and getting two free. Like the other two reviews (here and here) we won’t make you wait too long to find out what that meant. You get a free cardboard iPhone with your purchase of Bone Collection’s Bubble Case. Inside of that case, you will also find a compliemntary hard style screen protector. In addition, you get a free strap – we still haven’t found a use for it, but maybe another month?
Design
Can’t go wrong with the color black – at least not yet. The reality is, it’s more grey, well dark grey. The clear silicone doesn’t give the rich black that you can’t go wrong with, but we have little complaints. The chrome Apple logo is still very much noticeable through the case, but that’s not what you are looking at. The case is actually shaped very much like a bone. The corners extend noticeable outwards, but more on that later. The back features a bubbled surface that provides not only a nice texture, but also a natural mechanism to prohibit excess sliding in a variety of situations.
Protection
Paragraph number two is the cooler one, but conventional protection is always a good thing to talk about. Just like the prior two cases from the Bone Collection the protection is just what we would expect from the top tier silicone cases. The hole for the camera to peek through is constructed to the correct specification. The sides are completely covered (except for the ringer switch) and like the previous cases indents for the volume buttons are easily able t be moved. The only part of the phone that is visible from the front is the screen, while the home button is covered by grey plastic.
The Special Feature
Consider this paragraph numero dos on protection. We told you we’d talk about the corners a tad bit later, and now is later. The Bubble Case features padded corners that extend beyond the normal figure of the case. There are two advantages this provides. First is grip, the edges combined with the bubbles on the back mean that gripping this case is easier then most. The more important is the extra cushion it provides. We dropped an old phone a couple times and watched how the phone dropped and we concluded that for minor drops, it helps. Obviously, we wouldn’t want to guarantee that it prevents damage from any fall, but it definitely helped the impact.
Accessories to the Accessory
So the following is the same as the other review: We really liked the screen protector. Bone Collection included a hard style-esk protector. We liked this much better than those don’t mimmic the feel of the iPhone’s glass. Installation was easy via the soapy water method and you can’t tell it’s on there. As for the strap, we aren’t a big fan? If you like them then we suppose it’ll be a nice addition, but for us we like to leave our iPhone off the leash. If you are in the same boat as us (the not like the strap one) then you’ll be glad to know that it’s removable.
After a month or so we noticed the screen protector had acquired some scratches, we aren’t sure what caused them – although we are pretty confident it can be blamed on some keys. Is it something to be concerned about? No. Our screen still remained undamaged, which is the a priori concern. Oh yeah, it’s free.
In Closing
First, we still want to get to test the Bone Collection H1 headphones – that should happen soon. As for the case, it’s the one we used the most of the three – which is shocking because the appearance of the case is not something that we would normally be attracted to. The value in al the cases from Bone Collection is incredible, but cases are definitely a personal thing. We couldn’t find anything to complain about and that’s normally a good sign.
