Review: MainMenu

A while back, my Mac was moving slow and at times it even stalled when running the simplest types tasks. At that time, I went on a search to find the perfect application that would solve my problem and get my Mac working great again. In my search, I did find a few applications but only one stood out like MainMenu did. Created by CreativeBe, MainMenu is “a powerful maintenance tool to keep your Mac running like new” and we are happy to say that they do not lie as this is one extremely versatile and powerful application.

What does it do?

MainMenu helps you to clean out all the files on your computer that can lead to it running slow. Things such as: Cache, Browser Cache, System Cache, Repair Permissions, Rebuild Launch Services, Remove Corrupt Preferences, Update Prebindings, Spotlight Reindex, Flush DNS Cache, Clean Dashboard, and more. These files/settings are safe to remove, and when fixed can lead to a much faster Mac. In addition, rather than doing these processes one at a time, you can setup “Batch Tasks” which, in short, are a way to select what you want done and it will do them all for you.

Skeptical, I was too

At first I was not sure whether I wanted to use this since it removed so many files. Due to that, I emailed the creator and asked him how safe it was to use. His response follows:

“I personally developed the application with the greatest care to security and safety of the system. While there is no 100% guarantee, MainMenu is used by thousands of people everyday and we haven’t heard of any computers being messed up. There are, however, some third party applications that don’t abide by Mac OS X conventions, for example storing license keys in cache files. This has been limited to a handful of games and niche applications, though.”

After hearing his response, I was convinced that it was safe to use. Personally, I have had no issues, only a fantastic experience and a snappier Mac.

How well did it preform?

I have been using MainMenu for a little over a month, and at the moment I could not be happier. It completes most takes fairly quickly, most times it’s done preforming maintenance within minutes. With all the features MainMenu brings to the table, I do not see myself switching to another maintenance application any time soon.

Simplicity at its best

Just about every application has some sort of a window, MainMenu does not. When you open this application, all you notice is a new icon in your menu bar. From there, a drop down is all you use. Then again, to be fair, there is a preferences window along with a batch tasks window, so technically it has “some sort of a window” but there is no major application window like you will see in some other performance applications such as MacCleanse. It is a beautiful application, that makes me wonder why this doesn’t come preloaded on the Mac.

Conclusion

MainMenu is one of the most used applications on my Mac. For the price of $20 for a lifetime license, MainMenu is an application that every Mac user needs. TheMacFeed recommends MainMenu to anyone looking for a faster, cleaner Mac.

Main Menu is avalible from CreativeBe’s website for $20 located here.
