Review: Bone Collection Phone Wave

We previously gave you our thoughts on Bone Collection’s Phone Wrap and given how that review we started we recommend that you take a look at it. When we originally were browsing the collection of cases offered by Bone Collection, the one that caught our eye was the Phone Wave. We aren’t very adventurous when it comes to cases for our iPhones (we have been known to use the same case for a year or so) – so naturally this was the one that we selected of the bunch. We weren’t surprised – and we suppose that is a good thing in this instance.

Out of the Box:
While the reality is we took the same things out of the box as we did in our last review – we will try to make this different and perhaps more entertaining for you; forgive us if we struggle. In the bottom right-hand corner there is a little sticker that confused us at first. Here’s the riddle “Buy one Get 2 free.” Originally we thought – while, we had no clue. Once you start to take things out of the box, you learn what that sticker meant. (This assumes that you read the sticker before prying the box open, but…) Inside the box you’ll find the case, a strap and a cardboard iPhone model. Inside the cardboard iPhone you’ll find the hard screen protector.

Design:
We picked the red rendition of the Phone Wrap. There is also a black, white and gray version. Each case is two tone with a basic color and an alternate trim. The black features a semi-transparent black base and a yellow/banana trim that covers the outside of the phone, a circular portion on the home button and the area around the camera. The gray base is solid with the same yellowish trim, the semi-transparent white is surrounded by orange trim* and our solid red has white trim. As for the physical design, the case is similar to most silicone cases. The wave design that is found across the entire back, which makes grip much easier.

*Note – the white case also features an orange logo in the bottom back.

Protection:
We think this case provides above average protection when it comes to silicone cases. Like the Phone Wrap, all the buttons are protected except for the ringer switch. (Although how one could protect that would be interesting) Most rubber and silicone cases protect the volume buttons, adequately form around the speaker and dock connector on the bottom, the lock button on the top and go around the headphone jack. The one difference is the home button. Cases like Speck’s PixelSkin (and most of of the other cases) don’t cover the home button; Bone Collection’s Phone Wrap does.

Accessories to the Accessory
Once again, it’s the same stuff as we mentioned before – but we shall try to spice it up. Bone Collection is nice enough to include a complimentary screen protector and strap. The latter is not our favorite, but that’s just our personal opinion. Just like on the Phone Wrap, if you chose not to sport the strap – it’s hardly noticeable as there are only two small holes in the bottom of the case. As for the screen protector – we love it. Unlike a lot that are on the market, Bone Collection gives you a hard style screen protector that is similar to the glass on the iPhone. We easily applied it via the soapy water method and haven’t noticed any imperfections or discoloration.

Final Thoughts
We liked the case? That’s a yes, there isn’t anything special – but it does its job. That’s all we can expect and that’s what we got. No corky punch lines – at least for now. There are plenty of competitors and quite frankly it’s all a matter of personal preference. We liked the simplicity, protection and grip and more importantly, the quality. You can purchase Bone Collection’s Wave Case for $22.95 from Cyberguys.com.
