Panic is a company that creates some seriously amazing software that excels in both performance and design. These are the people behind popular applications such as Coda, Transmit, and Unison. Panic’s developers are application geniuses, and they have not disappointed us with CandyBar. CandyBar is an application that allows you to customize your dock and application icons. Whether you are working to make every icon match a certain theme, or if you are just in the mood for a more lively dock, this application will surely meet your needs.

Why customize your dock?
The real question is why not? The Mac’s UI is beautiful, no question about it. But, if you are given the choice to make it even better, why would you think twice? CandyBar gives you the option to replace an application’s icon and customize the dock’s appearance, and for some, the difference is night and day. Having the ability to make the dock fit your personality and your style just feels right, not to mention it looks better too.
Where to get all of these icons and docks…
Mac theming is the hobby of thousands of people, and there are three main hubs of this art – IconFactory, Deviant Art, & MacThemes. These are three of the most popular websites from which icons & docks are released. From there, you would just look around and find what icons you like, then simply apply them in CandyBar. For a lot of people, this customization is extremely addictive, which strangely also makes it fun.

Simplistic Application
There are some applications that take time to get used to, then there are others that are so simple, you already know how to use them. CandyBar is the latter. As for the interface, it is separated into three main spaces – One for the content which is going to be customized (i.e. Dock, Application Icons, System Icons), one for the navigation, and another for all of your collected icons and docks. Panic did a fantastic job of naming this application, with all the beautiful icons and smooth lines, it truly is a candy bar.

It just works
CandyBar allows you to customize your Mac without the worry of an icon getting lost, or the dock being broken. If you find that you do not want any custom icons, you can simply click “restore icons.” If you want the default dock back, you can click “restore dock.” CandyBar is an extremely well made application that does its job wonderfully. The UI is something to drool over, and the performance is that of a Ferrari. We recommend it to anyone who wants to customize their dock.
Candybar is available for the unreasonably high price of $30 from Panic’s website located here.
