Review: Blogo

There’s a bunny in the room, so we are going to talk about it. The bunny is the icon of an application TheMacFeed relies on more then any other. (Okay, we lied, we also use Mail quite frequently. We will try not to lie anymore.) Blogo is an application made to ease blogging on websites like Blogo, Typepad, Wordpress and more. The main desire we searched for an application like Blogo was because of our desire to ease the uploading of pictures; problem solved, problem solved beautifully.

Setting It Up:
It’s extremely easy. A simple input of your URL, username and password and you are ready. Well, you also need to allow your blog to be accessed by Blogo, but you get the point – no FTP or anythingelse that confuses us. Then you just start writing. Blogo will integrate the categories and sub-sections of the blog to allow you to post to the correct place.

Back to Basics:
The application is really simple, large window and type. There are buttons to bold, underline and italicize; hotlink, quote, strikethrough and that’s about it. The goal is to type without distraction or confusion and Blogo achieves this perfectly. Rather then working in a crowded tab environment, we write in a simple space similar to a simple text editor. Functions like command + b actually bold and command + u; you get the point. Blogo allows you to go into fullscreen mode to help block-out and focus, something that we should use, but we don’t use.

Getting Rid of the Browser
This really is much better then it sounds. I don’t care what version of Safari, Firefox or Camino you use – browsers are not 100%. With Blogo you get an application that is not prone to random crashing because of plug-ins, nor do you have fifteen tabs open all begging for trouble. Blogo allows you to write when and where you want to write and is great for projects that you delay. You don’t need an internet connection to draft and you don’t need to worry about timing out or accidentally hitting backspace in the wrong window. You write, Blogo saves (and more importantly saves you time.)

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures…
We were interested in Blogo because we wanted ease uploading numerous pictures. Blogo solved this problem. Simply drag your pictures where you want them and they are there. Blogo allows for you to resize your photos within the application, but only by numerically adjusting pixel sizes, not by dragging. Blogo allows you to post numerous other things like video and widgets in the same manner, all much more efficiently then using a browser.

Other Features
Blogo has a couple of other features that we appreciate. The first is an extremely easy-to-use preview that shows you exactly what you will see when you click “post.” We also enjoyed the automatic Pinging that was built into Blogo for sites like Digg. Blogo can also be synced with your Twitter account to automatically show when you make a new post. Additionally, Blogo allows for the editing of previous posts within Blogo; just in case you forgot how to do it in Safari.

Overall
We like Blogo. It makes things easier and more efficient, which is all we wanted. Sure, it would be nice to have the ability to resize pictures with our mouse, but the point is Blogo makes us at least three times more efficient. Countless times we accidentally closed a window or hit backspace; numerous times picture loading failed and other times we struggled to figure out how to use HTML – Blogo eases all this. If you do understand HTML, Blogo allows for editing in HTML, as opposed to Rich, but the efficiency of Blogo is much better seen in Rich text. Blogo cost $25 and it’s not overpriced, but it’s also not cheap. We suppose that it all depends on how frequently you post and how complex your post are, for us, we aren’t sure what we would do without it. Just because we are addicted to Blogo doesn’t help us desire for more at a lower cost, TheMacFeed gives Blogo 4.0/5 stars. Blogo can be purchased for $25 from Brainjuice LLC and we know we’d do it.
