Snatch is advertised as “The ultimate iPhone/iPod Touch remote control app for your PC or Mac.” I still am yet to be completely convinced. There are a few flaws in this app that can lead to a very upsetting user experience.
User Interface:
The UI of snatch is something that I expect to be near perfect. In Snatch, the user interface was extremely upsetting, it was not easy to navigate through, and it was just not fun to use. The launch pad is basically a list of all of the applications you are currently running on your Mac/PC. You have the option to close that application by simply clicking a button. The ‘Keys’ Tab is where the keyboard is located. The keyboard on Snatch is very disappointing. Unlike other applications you have to go to a separate ‘tab’ to access the keyboard which can lead to frustration. If you have to use the mouse you have to go to the ‘Tracking’ tab, then if you need to type you have to go over to the ‘Keys’ tab. Ontop of the issue with ‘tabs’ there is sensitivity. The application is very pushy in terms of using the app. If you accidentally double tap in the wrong area a menu will open. The tracking ‘tab’ is not so great. I am not happy with the size of the track pad. It is rounded not full screen and there is a giant blurry mouse that lets you know where your finger is touching. At this point Snatch’s UI is in need of a few major updates to make it easier to use.
Remotes:
There is a very impressive feature on Snatch. It is basically a way for people to create their own remotes to use with the app. There are 24 remotes in the database that are available for download. You can download remotes for Hulu, Front Row, Windows Media Center, etc from Hoofien’s website located here.
Features:
The basic features of this app are:
- Multi-touch mouse trackpad
- Scroll pad
- Launch pad: control running apps and launch new ones
- Complete keyboard control
- Fully customizable and programmable remote control editor.
Conclusion:
Overall, the App is a great idea and it works well. There are many UI flaws that really are disappointing and I hope they are fixed. I give Snatch a 2.5/5!
Snatch is available from the app store located here.
