Review: Ghost radar

Update: Ghost Radar has been through countless updates making this review a bit out dated. We plan to update soon.

Update 2: We have added new pictures of the app. The top photo is Ghost Radar 2.0, the other are pre-2.0 images.

Update 3: What have you seen with this app? Post about it here in our forums!

GR1

Created by Spud Pickles, Ghost Radar is an app that helps you become a ghost hunter. It has its very own unique UI that lets anyone track down paranormal creatures. But does it work? ”Ghost Radar employs a proprietary algorithm to analyze the quantum flux. The measurements are displayed graphically as blips on the radar along with numeric and textual readouts. Use your Ghost Radar to hunt for odd changes in the flux. Hunters of all types may find anomalous areas of their environment where readings simply can’t be explained. You be the judge. Are the results of your hunting evidence of paranormal activity?”

User Interface:

Ghost radar has a very uncommon UI, it uses a radar like you would find in a plane or a boat. It gives you a plethora of information that most people wont understand. One great bonus feature is ability to turn on a flashlight to see around the dark rooms when you are looking for ghosts.

GR

Controls:

Ghost Radar has very few options in the settings menu. You have 5 options:

  • Scan Frequency
  • Duplicate Detection Threshhold
  • Display Impendance
  • Signal Timeout
  • Signal Capacitance

The small menu is not a poor quality, it is just keeping the app very simple which we like. We would appreciate the ability to change more about the look of the radar with the option to turn off the bizarre numbers and have a much cleaner UI.

Does it work?

Ghost Radar is not something I would trust to defend my life from corrupt ghosts. I did find many ways to trick the system. Sometimes all it took was an uneven gentle noise, or even a dog barking. I have not been to a real haunted house to test the app so I am not sure if Ghost radar finds ghosts or if it is just randomly displaying dots on the radar to scare me.

Conclusion:

Ghost Radar is a great app, it may even work for parents who want to prove that there is no monster in the closet. We will never know if this really works, but it is very fun to play with. Ghost Radar is a marvelous way to waist time, and it is certainly worth the .99 on the app store. I recommend you get this app because it is fun and entertaining. If someone uses this in a real haunted house please share your results. I give Ghost radar a 2.5/5!

  1. Its a great app this really works as for looking for ghosts…now if you put every thing on the settings on 10.0 and leave signal timeout on 1.0 this gets rid of FALSE results so I’d give this app a 3.9/5

  2. I used this app for the first time and it came on strong! It gave me words that felt like some sort of directions: you will, then, Texas (very specific!), South, Remember, air, thing, course, people, certain, the, place, history, go

I don’t know what to make of it. It liked my cat Gulliver and when I sat down next to him it went wild! It also responded energetically when I played a You Tube demo about the app. The words certain people flashed as a sound of people could be heard on the you tube. Interesting app.

  3. I have used the app and as a paranormal investigator and medium I have to say it actually works, especially as far as the words go. We have used an ovilus which is a similar device except not as portable or versatile, and this works better than the ovilus. I had it on at a class I was doing on Earthbound Spirits and the things it said would confirm something we had said, and would announce a spirit before we talked with them. There was a spirit in the room who was a scientist and it said scientist several times. Honestly, I don’t say something is valid/works unless it does, I’m a skeptic first, but this app is fantastic for any paranormal investigator!!!

  4. Thanks Dawn for your feedback. I appreciate it. I have been writing down words that the app spells out and don’t exactly know what to do now. I would like to work alongside a paranormal investigator. Any ideas?

  5. There are always a couple paranormal groups in major areas especially. You can google paranormal investigation and your city and some groups should come up or you can go to meetup.com and search for groups there… Where do you live? It’s a great tool to use with a medium because we get information and then it says a related word, pretty wild :) The other great thing is if you write down the words it says and then go back and look up the history of the location you’re investigating, you will probably find that it has said some relevant words :)

  6. Again thanks for your help Dawn. I will try to find some local groups. I have been writing down words and sometimes they make sense…My building seems to be a hot spot. I have to find out what was on it before my building.

  7. scares the crap out of me. 6 different times n my home while using ear phones, it says my NAME!!!!!

  8. I have no fear. Unless they were poltergeists then maybe! I got “Kepler” spelled out the other day and then the phrase flight=form.

  9. I am sitting inthe courtyard of The Bethesda Church. I turned onGhost Radar and it spelled out “Examine experience”

  10. Well… I got a lot of rambling nothing (seemed like nothing) Then the words- good very built boat- how did it know I have a luxury yacht behind my house? Does the program use a location program to know where we are? Hmmm… I have since gotten mostly weird ramblings. Not sure what I think of this yet. What do the colored dots mean????

  11. The colored dots are supposedly energy bodies or ghosts. The red ones are intense. I find when they appear they speak via text. I have found that different ghosts have different qualities, presence, and that this is palpable via the meaning or lack thereof of texts that emerge, speed at which they emerge and the meaning of the content. I have a hypothesis and that is that ghosts cannot necessarily stay present and instead are aimless but when they get close to us they may attempt communication but have no staying power so it is like someone on a carousel trying to catch a gold ring as the horses whizz by it. I feel sorry for them, believe there IS something there and have empathy for them. I feel a little strange saying this. Odd isn’t it?

  12. Last night [Halloween], me and some friends went to hang out at a creek, it was five of us, two girls and three guys. We had a cauldron to make a fire, we were just talking and my friend said that some guy hung himself a couple of years ago on one of the trees that were behind us. It scared the crap out of me, then she busted out her Ipod touch and she had that app. some yellow and orange dots were appearing and it said a couple of words but the only one I remember said “attack”, we left a couple of hours later, at around 1:30 A.M. I convinced myself that the app was just for fun, which is why I looked up if it really worked. Scary!

  13. OK-I am a believer. Last night topped them all. I turned on my iPhone and Ghost Radar. I watched intently as it spelled out the following: “noted location”, “gray”, At this point my standing fan turned on. I did not turn it on. I asked out loud with child-like wonder “Who turned on the fan?” The Ghost Radar responded “Me”! The following words were spelled out and then the “ghosts”dissapeared off the radar: “full”, “harbor”, “golden”, “electricity”, “dream”, “catch”, “July”, “given”, “circle” and “hurt”.

  14. Just a small point I live in Yorkshire England. All the ghosts seem to be obssessed with American Locations and names. Makes me wonder the nationality of the people who “made up” this application. Good fun for a quid though just gives it away with my ghosts saying California and Texas etc.

  15. Matt-Too funny since my Ghost Radar here in America comes up with Africa, and other countries.

  16. Here are some other words that have come up lately: airplane, watch, wooden, street, year, toward, felt, hat, hour, few

    Stretch, Japan, variety, into, late

fan, noted location, gray, I asked who turned on my fan since it turned on without me turning it on and the Ghost Radar responded “me”!, golden, electricity, dream, catch, July, given, circle, hurt

play, right, does, room, you’ll, start, perhaps, below, roar, eight, here, did, lead

    speed, scientist, about, per certainty

Oct 6-got hour, movement, itself, money, give, kept, draw, made, been, hundred, under, living, be

England, Joe, got, guide, for, through, trick, go

vowel, tongue, plain, hurt, Sat., completely, know, but, back, bar, here, cannot, flat, coat, difficult, about, best, help, safe, are, old, favorite, Dad

tree, below, another, slide, made, been

    All grow, do another, stranger

win, lead, being, sell, behind oil, familiar, explain, especially, fur

include, money, weight, include kitchen bat itself under halfway time date later Western

  17. I haven’t used it much lately. I tried it last week at my parent’s house. They live near Civil War battlefields. I got a few words (can’t remember) that didn’t mean much until… it said coach and I said aloud hmm what coach? What kind of coach? Then I realized where my iPhone was lying. It was in the floor touching one of my Coach brand scarves next to the word Coach. The word Coach is only printed on one side on one end and it happened to be upright next to my phone. True story! I even took a pic. The word coach was gone off the screen but it shows where the scarf & phone were at the time. I think that was the last word that came up. I got nothing for so long after that, that I gave up and turned it off. Does it mean anything? Who knows! Just sharing.

  18. If you have an update the words are saved in Ghost Radar I found recently and they can mail you the stream. Spooky or good programming: “coach”!

  19. i downloded this app. Do i believe or not? we hear things in our house all the time without the app so today i turn it on we get a lot of energy and random words. But what is freaky is that where most of the activity is in our house that is where we got the most words and little bimps on the radar, real or not? but it is worth the money

  20. I would be very sceptical about anything like this, but about 1am last night I tried it and got 2 or 3 red dots around me. The words – roman, leader, dead, and church appeared. All of this county has a strong roman history.

This morning, the roads are very icy and I have to leave for the airport in a few hours and I am getting “freezing, accident, Dr, fell, smoke” I am not joking, this is freaking me out..

  21. Impossible to be real. Reason….What if you went to Mexico and used the radar, would all ghosts speak English?

  22. i downloaded this the other day! pretty cool, not sure if I believe, but it did say my name, which kinda freaked me out. Questions: does the radar on the screen represent a specific radius around whoever is holding the phone? and where is the sensor in the phone which does the measuring?

  23. Ok, I recently bought this app, because of my curiosity in the paranormal. The first night I used it, was around 4 pm. Not much activity. Some words. Thats about it. As the night grew older, my radar became more active. Bad mistake to watch “paranormal state” at night while using this app. I had many words spoken and lots of red blips. My wife and kids think I’m crazy now.

  24. I just downloaded the app…and within 10 minutes of me testing the device, it said…Louis, Army, Jump….well, I am In the Army, and stationed at Fort Lewis…and even though I do not Jump out of airplains…Jump is a real close referance to Airborn…what do you think?

  25. Was showing a coworker of mine this application. When I walked it over to her desk it began to get really chatty. It got quiet again for a bit and I said “Wow it got really chatty around you didn’t it?” It then said “CERTAINLY” creepy!

  26. Just got this- I am really interested in the paranormal and I think this app may have some truth to it. I was sitting in my room, and I asked “am I alone, or is there someone here?” and right after that the word “couple” popped up followed by 2 red blips. I then asked what the name was and “Martin” popped up. During this time I also had a intense blast of cold and a case of goosebumps- if this thing is a hoax- it was a lucky one. Cool none the less for $1.
