MacBook Pro Displays Getting Higher Marks from Photographers

Mac Question Mark

The MacBook Pro, while a favorite of photographers, has been long lauded for its inaccurate color display and the original MBP refresh back in late 2008 left much to be desired. One of the MBP’s harshest critics in early 2009 was Rob Galbraith, who gave the then new laptop a mediocre rating for use in professional photography.  Fast forward to last week and the story, at least as told by Galbraith, has changed significantly.  In fact, Galbraith goes on record stating that, “[…] the current MacBook Pro lineup offers the best displays for photographers we’ve ever seen from Apple.”

The biggest problem identified by Galbraith, which is a common trend among MBP users, is the lack of a matte screen option on anything but the 17” model. However, a third-party, TechRestore, is about two months away from releasing a matte replacement option for the 13” and 15” models, similar to what they have offered on previous Apple laptops. While TechRestore has not released details about pricing, similar previous replacements ran around $199 according to Galbraith.
